Re: Commission on College Basketball Report
This morning, the independent Commission on College Basketball led by Dr. Condoleezza Rice presented its recommendations to address the issues facing men’s collegiate basketball. Dr. Rice and members of the Commission presented their findings to the NCAA’s Board of Governors, Division I Board and Presidential Forum, and Division II and III Presidents’ Councils of the NCAA.
The National High School Basketball Coaches Association, Inc. applauds the report issued by the Commission on College Basketball to the NCAA today. The report calls for action in many areas of collegiate basketball. The NHSBCA is qualified, prepared and ready to help in any way possible to bring about the recommended changes.
The next steps entail the NCAA Board of Governors and Presidents’ Councils to review and support the work of the Commission. The NCAA will then take the recommendations and develop action plans for the NCAA Board of Governors to vote on at their August meeting for implementation soon thereafter.
Head Varsity high school basketball coaches throughout the nation are uniquely positioned to be leaders, connectors and communicators in youth/amateur basketball in the United States.
As strategic planning, design and implementation of actions and activities take place, high school coaches are ready to work collaboratively to bring about changes. We will continue to keep you informed as we move forward.
