The KABC was formed in 1993 after several meetings of coaches representing various regions of the state. The meetings took place in Lexington, Kentucky, at the KHSAA offices. The purpose of these meetings was to develop a basketball coaches' association that would protect and promote the game and its tradition-rich legacy.
- The Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame was born out of an idea from the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. Under the direction of North Hardin High School's Men's Head Basketball Coach, Ken Trivette, the project began in October 2009 with the stated purpose of recognizing and protecting the heritage of Kentucky High School Basketball. The Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame is dedicated to promoting and educating the public about the culture, tradition and rich heritage of Kentucky High School Basketball. It will honor and provide a fitting tribute to former players and coaches while preserving and displaying historical information and memorabilia associated with the game.
- Elizabethtown, Kentucky serves as the permanent home of The Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Headquartered in the center of the Commonwealth's Heartland, the Hall's new home provides the public convenient access to all the organization's activities and functions.
