BCAM - Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan

MEMBERSHIP: BCAM breaks membership record for the 7th consecutive year to 5845 members for the 2018-19. We continue to lead the country as the largest basketball coaches association

TOP 100 SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD: BCAM is working with our state athletic association (MHSAA) to award outstanding sportsmanship awards to the top 100 boys programs and the top 100 girls programs in the state. The officials rate each team on sportsmanship after each game and the results are generated by the MHSAA. A banner recognizing each winner is presented to the schools in the fall. These banners are sponsored by PureSweat.

OUTSTANDING SENIOR STUDENT-ATHLETE AWARD & TEAM FIRST AWARD

Outstanding Senior Student Athlete Award honors those players who have 4 seasons of high school basketball and have maintained outstanding grades. The requirements are:

  1. Only Head Varsity Coach (BCAM Member) may nominate.
  2. Player must be a SENIOR who has played all 4 years of high school basketball (Varsity, JV, etc).
  3. Nominee must have a MINIMUM cumulative GPA of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. (Cumulative GPA reported must be for 9th grade through FIRST SEMESTER/TRIMESTER of senior year.)
  4. Coaches may nominate as many players from their team as qualify.

TEAM FIRST Award is a new award that will be given to high school varsity and college varsity players.  One player per varsity team is eligible for this award. Each varsity coach may choose one player from their team to receive a certificate from BCAM. Team First winners should be the player from the team who most demonstrates putting team before self, teamwork, commitment, service and sacrifice.

MICHIGAN'S MISS & MR. BASKETBALL TROPHIES ON DISPLAY: In order to promote our Miss Basketball and Mr. Basketball awards, we have partnered with the University of Michigan and Michigan State University to display our beautiful trophies. The University of Michigan has the two trophies on display in their concourse in the Crisler Center (Home of the Wolverine basketball teams). Duplicate trophies will be on display at the new Tom Izzo Hall of History in the Breslin Center (home of the Spartan basketball teams). We want to thank coaches John Beilein and Tom Izzo for their support in this project.

THE BCAM/MHSAA REACHING HIGHER SHOWCASE

The BOYS event will be an NCAA certified event for Division 1 men's coaches. This NCAA legislation is new for this year. Division 2, Division 3, JUCO and NAIA college coaches may also attend. The GIRLS event will be non-certified at least for this year--which means that Division 2, Division 3, JUCO and NAIA college coaches may attend. (We are hopeful the NCAA will align the girl's recruiting window with the boy's next year so that it may also be a D1 event).
